Helmsley Left Dogs Billions in Her Will

Statements were made questioning the will that the late Leona Helmsley(widow of Harry Helmsley- real estate empire and owner of Helmsley's Hotels) had left her dog, Trouble $12 million dollars upon her death at 87. This raised some questions. Was her best interests and wishes for the care and welfare of the dogs incorporated in the documents? or adjusted in her expressing her wishes could mean the binding was not legal?
Witnesses stated "Leona set goals in writing in 2003", that would go into action after she died. Many people saw Leona as arrogant and not trustworthy during her conviction in 1989 of federal income tax invasion.
The 5 exectutives and trustees of her will are dealing with disposing of her real estate and making sure, "Trouble", the maltese was being protected after threats to kill the dog were made.
The trustees would then hire an advisor to assist them with keeping Leona's intentions and seeking charitable goals that would go to her foundation. One solution came from a judge who cut "Troubles" fund to $2 million and the rest would go to the charitable trust that was pending. The judge left 2 grandkids $6 million who were left out of the will.
The last step will be for the trustees to spend the money for different groups that help with animals or to help with research on canine diseases.
My opinion: Unless you are a true animal lover, you probably would not agree with her wishes.I, myself love all animals and find my animals to be very loyal, loving and dedicated to our family, more than friends sometimes are. So, why not leave the money to help with animals and the welfare of animals. This is what Leona wanted.

Pregnancy Boom at Gloucester High
To be or not to be- Pregnant that is, this seems to be the question of the day for the girl's at Gloucester High School.
School Officials started looking into the situation in October, after an unusual number of girls went to the school clinic to see if they were pregnant. By May, results from pregnancy test were still being done. Those girls that were not pregnant seemed more upset of the results.
The expecting students finally admitted to making a pact to get pregnant so they could raise their babies together. What made it worse, they had found out one of the father's to be was a homeless 24 year old.
The question what to do next had separated the community. On one side- Gloucester isn't sure they want to help make it easier for birth control. On the other hand, many residents think the issue is not the true problem. A decade of difficult times for the fishing industry, that was once strong in this town, jobs have moved to overseas. "Having someone to love unconditionally", is what Amanda Ireland 18, a former student said, she herself had a child her freshman year. These young girls felt lucky to have someone to care for.
The high school hasn't helped with the matter much. Sex- Ed classes were only offered as freshman. A day care center offered free care for teen parents. By May contraceptives were being prescribed by Dr. Orr and Ms. Daly whether they had a parental consent. Many in the community were angry of the school handing out birth control pills. Voting at Gloucester will take place this summer on the right to provide contraceptives. With the city being uncertain of it's future, no other option has been offered to these students.
My opinion: I do not agree with these young ladies getting pregnant. Most of them will realize soon how difficult it is to raise a child, even with help. They are still growing and maturing themselves. I remember my friend getting pregnant at 16 and having her first child at 17. I remember her saying, " if only I hadn't of gotten pregnant I would of finished school, if only I hadn't got pregnant I would of wanted a career. I just don't want these young ladies to say down the road, "what if". Those that have stayed in school and finished, or later down the road went and got their GED I give them props for wanting to make a better future for themselves and their children.

Flip-flops
A) 3 New vocabulary words and their definitions.
1. biomechanics- the science of motion , or action of forces on the body.
2. relegated- to consign to an inferior position, to turn over.
3. ubiquitous- present everywhere at the same time.
B) Author's purpose - to inform the reader.
C) According to the Author's: Barbara Kantrowitz and Pat Wingert- Flip flops might be what our
society is wearing, but at what cost? Studies were done at Auburn's University laboratory on pain that is common from wearing flip flops against the tennis shoe. While walking, flip flops allowed more pressure being applied to the feet causing pain throughout the legs.
The study led me to the conclusion that flip flops should be left to the sandy beaches.
D) I agree with the Author's view: I personally cannot wear flip flops for that very reason: More stress on my feet, legs, and ankles makes me an unhappy camper.
